Treating Addiction, PTSD & Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is different from acute pain. Today chronic pain is often treated with opioids with high risk of producing dependency in the attempt to manage the pain. Chronic pain is often not relieved by attempts to calm the local sites of pain, but instead often requires a holistic approach which involves a multidisciplinary team to be successfully treated. Dr. Frawley will be presenting a talk on the role of PTSD in the generation and maintenance of Chronic Pain.

At the end of the session, participants will be able to identify the role of PTSD and high levels of anxiety in the maintenance of chronic pain and will be able to identify the role of the therapist in the treatment of chronic pain. The participants will understand the natural history of chronic pain and be knowledgeable about the variety of interventions used to treat chronic pain.
